Before sleeping (In Your name, O Allah)
The Prophet ﷺ said this short phrase as the last thing before sleeping, treating sleep as a small death and waking as a return to life given by Allah. Ending your day with His name places the night, and your soul, in His care.
بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمُوتُ وَأَحْيَا
Bismika-llāhumma amūtu wa aḥyā
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
Authenticity: Sahih (authentic), reported by al-Bukhari (6324).

Frequently asked
What do you say on waking?
The Prophet ﷺ would say: al-hamdu lillahi-lladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhi-n-nushur (praise be to Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection).
Why call sleep a death?
Because the soul is taken during sleep and returned on waking; the phrase trains the heart to entrust itself to Allah each night.
